The All New Accidental Hippy

After setting some goals for 2012 I was inspired to go out and start making some changes to reach those goals as waiting for an arbitrary date seemed incongruous to the goals.  I needed to take action whilst I still had drive and impetus.

One of my goals was “post more regularly on my blog”.  I then delved deeper into why this was important and what I wanted from the goal.  This has led to a refining of the goal.

What I want:

  • To post at least once a week
  • To develop a reader/subscriber base – I have decided to aim for 1000 regular visitors/subscribers by the end of 2012
  • To turn this hobby into a business

This has led to a lot of reading, planning and best of all some action too.

I have:

  • Registered a domain name
  • Found a web host
  • Moved the blog to wordpress
  • Developed a logo
  • Redeveloped the whole look and feel of the site
  • Posted regularly during this process to develop the habit of posting

My goal for this blog is to talk about home and projects with my green/technology/ethical ethos as the filter.  I also want to try hard to be honest in the process.  Things are rarely perfect, but they are real.  I have a laundry I don’t like to be in, it is not a beautiful space.  My family ignore the beautiful labels that I put on storage containers, or put them back in the cupboards in different orders.  Sometimes there are smudges and smears ten seconds after I have cleaned something.  This IS reality for me, and for a lot of other people.  We try, we succeed, we try, we fail. We get up and try again.

I have not got this far alone.  My husband and children have been supportive of me devoting time, money and energy to this project, which is still very much in the “hobby” stage.  I thank them for allowing me this creative outlet and personal development space.

My good friends Simon and Anke have given much in the way of time, advice, troubleshooting and most significantly to a fledgeling blog, they have helped me source web hosting and develop my logo, which I love.  So a very big thank you to Simon especially for putting time in to develop the vague ideas I had, even when he didn’t think they’d work (and some didn’t, but luckily one did).  This has helped no end in shifting my mindset to the more professional end of blogging.

In thanks for this significant support all I can offer is a request to you, the reader to please check out Anke’s sites at Herbology and Knights at my Kitchen Table; and Simon’s sites Natator Photography and Dark Side of the Lens.

I’d also like to thank you for coming to see what is is I’ve been working on.  There is a good chance you are a friend of mine coming here to support me, so I wholeheartedly thank you.  If you think you might like to see more of this blog please subscribe, follow me on twitter, facebook or sign up for free menu planners direct to your email.  You would make my day.

Please have a look around, let me know if you see a mistake, especially like something, or if you’d like me to write about anything in particular.

I have total faith in you. I LOVE your goals. I think they are inspirational. I love 2012 in 2012… unfortunately, I doubt this is my year to shed 2012 items! >.>

Ah Rhianna, perhaps you can prepare for 2013 in 2013? Thank you for your vote of confidence, I hope you will prod me if the discipline starts to wane.
